Guide ยท Local AI image generator

A free AI image generator as simple as the paid sites, on your own PC.

Pick a model, write a prompt, press Cue. We tune the settings for every model we ship, so there is no CFG, no steps and no sampler to learn. Krea 2, FLUX, Stable Diffusion and more, with no sign-up, no subscription, no credits, and no internet once a model is installed.

Short answer

For a free, offline AI image generator with no account, download Cubric Studio. It is open source and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.

Why use a local AI image generator

Online image generators want an account, then a subscription, then credits for every picture. A local AI image generator runs on your own graphics card instead:

What this offline AI image generator can do

Generate from a prompt, then edit by saying what should change: the rest of the picture stays as it was. Mask a face, a hand or a background and work only there, give it a reference picture, place one image inside another, extend the canvas with Outpaint, and upscale the result. Big photos too: 16K images import and edit.

The Character Sheet Flow keeps one character consistent across poses and outfits, and Flows like Scribble and Draw It In turn a rough sketch into a finished picture.

Rather not drive it yourself? Ask the agent built into the app in plain words, or let Claude, Codex or Antigravity make the pictures over MCP. The pictures still run on your own graphics card.

Run Krea 2, FLUX and Stable Diffusion locally

Krea 2 is the one most people are looking for: Krea's own open model, known for its photographic look. In Cubric Studio it edits a picture from a prompt (changing only what you ask), takes a second reference picture, follows a depth reference, has ten style LoRAs and goes up to 2K. It is comfortable on a 16GB graphics card and runs, slowly, on 8GB. How to run Krea 2 locally.

The other local picture models are FLUX.2 Klein (4B and 9B), SDXL, Chroma, Illustrious and Pony, with Qwen Image Edit for edits. Pick one and the app installs it with everything it needs: no Python, no command line, no node graph. Add your own LoRAs and upscalers when you want them.

A local Midjourney alternative, and an Automatic1111 or Fooocus alternative

If you like how simple Midjourney is but not paying for it, Cubric Studio gives you the simplicity of the paid sites, free and on your own computer. If you used Automatic1111 or Fooocus and want something maintained, with current models, the settings already tuned, and video and sound in the same app, Cubric Studio picks up where they left off. See the free Midjourney alternative and Automatic1111 and Fooocus alternative guides. It runs a tested, version-locked engine, so an update does not break last month's work.

Local AI image generator on 8GB of VRAM

The lighter picture models run on about 8GB of video memory with 16 to 32GB of system memory. The larger ones are happier around 12GB with 32GB. The Model Library can show only the models your graphics card can run, and with no graphics card at all you can use cloud models (Seedream, FLUX 2, Nano Banana) on your own DeepInfra key.

Yes. Cubric Studio is free and puts no limit on what you do with what you make: it is yours. Each model comes with its own licence from the people who made it.
